CARERS COURSE
Course Description:
This course teaches the very basic skills required for working as a carer in the home or care assistant in a healthcare environment.
At the end of this course you should be able to:
- Implement the very basic practical skills involved in care giving: washing, dressing, eating, drinking, toileting and mobility.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills and assist clients in their care to maintain independence
- Implement basic hygiene, infection control, safe disposal of soiled linen, etc.
- Report and record incidents and maintain relevant documentation.
Who is this course for?
This course is suitable for anybody currently employed or seeking employment in care provision (e.g. elderly, disabled, etc.) or for home carers.

Assessment and Accreditation:
On completion of two short written assignments and 3 practical skills demonstrations you will receive a FETAC level 5 Component Certificate in “Care Skills”
Care Skills is one of the mandatory modules for the FETAC level 5 Healthcare Support award.
SPECIAL NOTES:
- A 6 week minimum period of work experience in a healthcare setting MUST be completed as part of this course. If you are not currently working in a healthcare setting you must arrange this work experience yourself.
- You must be in possession of a valid CPR certificate or complete a CPR course before the final assessments are submitted. A CPR course can be arranged subject to demand and for an additional fee at the end of this course prior to assessment. Please enquire for details.
