All FETAC courses require some form of assessment. This may be in the form of assignments, examinations, collection of work or other assessment method. The assessment methods, deadlines, assessment dates, etc. for your course will be given to you in writing in the form of an assignment brief and will be discussed with you by your tutor at the beginning of your course. If you feel you may need reasonable accommodation arrangements for your assessment please discuss this with a member of staff.
When you receive an assignment your assignment brief will state the deadline for submission. Work submitted after this date will not be accepted unless there are special circumstances. Please inform your tutor immediately if you have a special circumstance which will prevent you from submitting your assignment on time.
Generally, we do not facilitate repeat exams or re-submission of assessments, however will consider each case on its merits. If you have a special circumstance which you feel would merit you being permitted to repeat your assessment please inform your tutor or course coordinator
If a Learner presents another’s work as their own without due acknowledgement this constitutes plagiarism. Belvedere Institute sees plagiarism as a serious matter and Learners deemed to have presented work which is plagiarised may not be permitted to continue on the course. All work must be certified as being your own.
The appeals procedure is intended to help you if you feel that an assessment decision awarded to you is unfair.
The procedure sets out the steps that you should follow and indicates the timescale within which you should act. It is in your best interests to raise your concerns as soon as possible.
If you wish to appeal, you should complete the appeals form and return it, together with the appeal fee (€25) to Belvedere Institute no later than 14 days after you received your statement of results. You should explain in detail the circumstances leading to the appeal.
You can appeal against:
- Your result
- The assessment process - if you perceive there has been irregularities and / or inequality in its implementation
If you are appealing your result:
· The results will be double checked to ensure there is no clerical error, this will be completed within 5 working days of the appeal
· If there are no clerical errors, an independent assessor will review your evidence and the assessment results.
· If the independent assessor finds that your assessment material suggests that a different grade should have been given, this will be considered by the centre manager who will make the final decision regarding the changing or otherwise of the result based on the evidence available. This will be completed within ten working date from the date of engagement of the independent assessor.
If you are appealing the assessment process:
- In the event of the appeal being on the basis of perceived irregularities/inequality of the assessment process a full review of that process will be undertaken by the course coordinator. Where an irregularity is detected it will be brought to the attention of the Centre Manager and appropriate action taken to rectify the irregularity and any effect it had on the learner achieving their award. This will be completed within 20 working days of the receipt of the appeals form.
National Appeals Process
If you are still not satisfied, you may enter the National Appeals Process. You may only appeal against the process of assessment that we use and NOT the result you have been awarded.
If you wish to enter the National Appeals Process, you must inform us within 14 days of the result of your original appeal.
Belvedere Institute does not currently have the capacity or resources to enable learners to achieve awards through RPL, however, where possible we will take accredited prior learning in to account when a learner applies to enter a programme.
